Correctly set decoration can be maintained indefinitely, but it must be attached to the ideal of healthy enamel. Since filling materials composition adheres worse, and decoration may simply fall off, what the client is usually fairly warned.

Help decoration may lose some bad habits, such as chew the tip of a pencil, but in fact most people voluntarily give up their decor. Photographing also better in the clinic. I think that piercing the teeth is a little extreme and unecessary. There are alternatives out there such as http://www.stargems.co.uk.
